"Obatalá é Rei" marks a stunning debut from Monica Avila—a composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist weaving Afro-Brazilian tradition into new forms of expression. Inspired by ocean winds and ancestral memory, the title track is a tribute to the orixá Obatalá, opened by a sacred Yoruba chant and carried by waves of flute, percussion, and voice.

The companion track, "Caminho Curto, Caminho Longo," touches on love, grief, and childhood journeys to Rio's wild beaches. With Samara Líbano's lush seven-string guitar and Alexandre Garnizé's dynamic percussion, Monica builds soundscapes that are both timeless and deeply personal.
